The Finance Department is responsible for the payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions of the City of Fairbanks, as well as the collection of special assessments, hotel/motel bed tax, marijuana sales tax, tax on alcoholic beverages, gasoline excise tax and tobacco distribution tax within city limits. The real property taxes are collected by the Fairbanks North Star Borough on the City’s behalf and then distributed to the City.

In addition to the above functions, the Finance Director is involved in policy and long range financial planning, budget management, funds management, grant and contract administration, audit management, and fiscal administration.
